As an administrative professional, one of my most valued professional memberships is with the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). This past year IAAP has announced a restructure to its organization.
I believe with change comes change and opportunity! Yes, there have been many lively conversations among the members over the last several months about the restructuring of IAAP. However, the organization holds true to its core purpose “To ensure individuals working in office and administrative professions have the opportunity to connect, learn, lead, and excel.”
As a member of the IAAP community for several years, I am dedicated and committed to supporting this organization through this restructure and transition, and I hope you will, too! The words “team and community” come before “I or me” when an organization takes on such a huge undertaking in an effort to move forward. I believe that memberships in organizations builds bridges.
Despite an already jam packed schedule this past and present year, I have chosen to support IAAP in several ways:
- Paid my professional membership dues
- Attended the Educational Forum and Annual Meeting (EFAM)
- Served as a Chapter Delegate during the business session
- Became an Association Influencer
- Served as the IAAP California Division Vice-President and was recently elected to President-Elect
- Chaired a four-day educational California Division Conference in June 2014 in Sacramento
- Spoke at IAAP Chapter meetings at no charge
- Attended numerous IAAP meetings and participated on numerous IAAP board calls
- Publicized IAAP through my social media technologies and blog
- And more…
Over the years, IAAP has helped me to increase my confidence, improve my communication and technology skills, strengthen my leadership skills, and grow my professional network. IAAP offers so many opportunities that well exceed what I pay for my annual membership. I will never be able to put a price on confidence. I will never be able to put a price on the lasting friendships that have been created because of this association.
Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” IAAP has brought thousands of administrative professionals together throughout the world and continues to do so. However, it is up to you and me to keep this organization progressing and working towards success.
This past month I received my membership renewal. No question! I’m renewing my IAAP membership. I have no intention of bailing on an organization that needs OUR support, commitment, and loyalty through this period of revitalization and restructure. I choose to live life looking through the windshield and not the rearview mirror. Let’s embrace the future that is ahead and stay connected to an exceptional organization that continues to stay listed on my resume.
If you aren’t already a member of IAAP, I would encourage you to join. If you are a current member of IAAP, I would encourage you to renew your membership when your membership is due!
If we don’t stand united for ourselves, who will!!
Agnes, I couldn’t agree with you more. Thanks!
I will definitely be renewing.
Dianne, great!
Awesome! Thank you for being such an inspiration. This should convince those who are “on the fence” about renewing their membership to renew without hesitation. Congratulations, Stacy!
Thank you, Nora. Appreciate your leadership and service over this upcoming year.
Excellent! I’m making a few copies to have handy whenever I’m faced with someone in doubt! Thanks Stacy. . . .

Donna, that is a great idea.
