Hustling vs. Drifting in Your Career

February 27, 2015 by Stacy

18300071_sThroughout our careers, we have many choices and opportunities available to us.  Do we seize them?  Do we seek them?  Do we create them?  Or do we get stuck not knowing what to choose and choose nothing?

Often times too many choices and opportunities can lead to indecisiveness, and indecisiveness can lead to choosing absolutely nothing.  We make no decisions and start drifting.

Do you feel like you’re hustling or drifting in your career?

Professionals who focus and can limit distractions will have more time available in the day to complete work assignments, work towards professional goals, and will seize the day versus waste the day.  Each new day is a gift and quite frankly we don’t know how many new days we have in front of us.

Employees who are hustling come to work because they want to.  They have deliberately chosen their employer, create positive working relationships, inspire others, and are happy.  They understand their role in the company/organization and fulfill their purpose without resistance or complaint.  These determined and energetic employees value hard work, and they enjoy striving to reach their career aspirations.

Performance on the job is becoming more valuable to employers.  Let’s not limit ourselves to merely meeting employer and customer expectations.  Let’s work to exceed their expectations by going above and beyond.  Give yourself permission to go beyond your job description to WOW others.

Employees who are hustling are investing in themselves.  Are you investing in your career by dedicating time, resources, and energy to developing yourself?

Don’t start drifting by always expecting your employer to give you the time and resources.

If we are really committed to our career growth, we never stop seeking new opportunities.  It’s our responsibility to keep growing and to evolve into the person we intended to be.  You are the person responsible for your career.  Dream big and then work hard to make that dream a reality.
