We are meeting up today with our very own Stacy Leitner, Blogger for A Great Day’s Work. She’s ready to give you a sneak peek into her world.
- Why did you start the blog, A Great Day’s Work? I started my blog A Great Day’s Work to share resources with administrative professionals in an effort to help them be successful in their career and inspire them to lead in the workplace.
- Where were you born and raised? Chico, California
- Tell us about your family. My family means the world to me. My parents still live in Chico, CA, and they just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. I am the oldest of four children.
- Where do you work? I work full time as the Senior Executive Assistant to the City Manager at the City of Rancho Cordova in California. What’s so unusual about my job is that I was hired in 2004 as employee No. 13 to help build a new City. It’s been an incredible journey.
- What is your favorite magazine subscription? I cannot pick just one! I have many magazine subscriptions. I enjoy reading OfficePro, Executive Secretary, Success, and O, The Oprah Magazine.
- Is there a professional association you would recommend administrative professionals join? I belong to several professional organizations and find value in each of them. The association I have participated in the longest is the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). My membership in IAAP has offered me quality educational programs delivered both online and in-person, the CAP certification, a worldwide network of administrative professionals, leadership and volunteer opportunities, and much more. It’s been the best investment of time and money in my administrative professional career. If you have questions about IAAP, let me know.
- Share a little bit about the business you own. I am the co-owner of Admin to Admin. We offer educational programs, educational retreats, and onsite training for administrative professionals.
- Tell your readers about your teaching career. I have taught college courses for 16 years and absolutely enjoy preparing students to be successful in the workplace. I currently teach for BYU-Idaho. Who better to prepare administrative professionals for the workplace than someone who works in the role each and every day?
- What do you struggle with? Yikes! You want me to share that with the world? Two ongoing challenges I face are getting to the gym regularly to exercise and getting to bed before 1 a.m.
- What is your best interview advice? Invest your time to customize your cover letter and your resume. Prepare for the job interview! I interview candidates year after year, and it shocks me how unprepared candidates are during the interview process.
- What is one of your favorite interview questions? What research did you do to prepare for this interview today? Share with me what you learned.
- Do you play an instrument? Yes. I play the piano and teach piano lessons to a couple of children each week.
- Do you have any pets? No, maybe someday.
- What is your favorite book? My favorite book is How Will You Measure Your Life by Clayton Christensen.
- You keep an unusually busy schedule. How do you manage so many responsibilities? I’m really good about focusing on my priorities, managing my time, and eliminating timewasters. Taking time to relax and have fun each day is also important. I’m a planner, and I schedule everything on a calendar! Most importantly, my family and friends are amazing supporters.
